Bhubaneswar, Nov. 27: Police remain clueless about the whereabouts of the 34-year-old mining engineer, Ibrahim Sharief, who has been missing since Monday.
Ibrahim, who lives in Nigam Vihar, Patia, worked as assistant controller of mines in the office of the regional controller of mines of the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), Bhubaneswar.
With his colleagues and relatives ruling out any possibility of either enmity or job-related pressure on the engineer who hails from Bellary in Karnataka, the case has posed a tough challenge to the police.
The police have so far managed to trace his scooter that was found in the parking lot of a private hospital barely 200 meters from his office at Chandrasekharpur.
“He was very sincere and hard working and even worked on Saturdays and Sundays. He had worked in the office from 3pm to 6pm on Sunday. He used to sit next to me and I have never found him tense,” said deputy controller of mines L.H. Chhangte.
He said that they have alerted all the regional offices and were waiting for instructions from the headquarters at Nagpur.
Ibrahim, holding a B.Tech degree in mining engineering, used to work in a Goa-based private mining company before moving to IBM, Bhubaneswar, on January 27, 2011. Ibrahim has four brothers and two sisters.
His neighbours and landlord also said that Ibrahim was a nice fellow and there was no chance of him having enemies. “He was a very good person and always shared a cordial relationship with all of us. The news of him going missing has shocked us,” said Ibrahim’s landlady, Padmalaya Dash.
The incident came to light after his wife queried about him from his office after Ibrahim did not return home for lunch.
“He usually came home for lunch. But on Monday he did not come for lunch. When my daughter called him on his mobile, it was switched off. Later my daughter called up his colleagues and came to know that he had not been to his office,” said Ibrahim’s father-in-law Khasim Peera, who reached Bhubaneswar today.
The police said that they have received a complaint in this connection and have started an investigation.
