Bhubaneswar, Sept. 25: A third-year student of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, is missing for almost a week.

Vipul Kumar, the electrical engineering student from Jharkhand, left for home for Puja vacation on September 20 but did not reach home.

On September 22, his family approached the authorities of NIT Rourkela and requested them to inquire about Vipul's whereabouts.

'The hostel warden received a call from the boy's uncle after two days asking about his whereabouts,' said registrar S.K. Upadhyay.

This alarmed the authorities and a drive was launched to trace him.

When they broke open the door of Vipul's room in the hostel, they found a note.

'There was a note in his room and this made all anxious,' said Upadhyay.

The note addressed to his father states: 'I have failed to meet your expectation for which I am going away, but I will come back when I will be able to meet it.'

The authorities immediately brought this to the notice of police and filed a missing information report.

Sources in the NIT said Vipul did not do well in the last exam and this had upset him. Otherwise, his conduct had always been good.

Confirming the FIR, Sector-3 police station inspector in-charge Rasmita Patel said: 'The NIT authorities have filed a missing complaint with us regarding a student.'

She also confirmed that the boy was from Jharkhand, and on receiving the complaint from his uncle, they took the action.

'He never reached home after the institute was closed for the Puja vacation,' said Patel.

She also said: 'The student did not do well in the examinations and went had probably gone missing for this reason.'
