Berhampur, Feb. 21: The district police will shortly be equipped with the crime and criminal tracking network and systems (CCTNS).

“The process has started with digitisation of all police records between 2003 and 2012. The system is expected to be implemented within six months,” Berhampur police superintendent Prateek Mohanty told The Telegraph today.

He said that Wipro was providing the necessary software while NIIT was the system integrator for this project. Offices of sub-divisional police officers, police superintendent, deputy inspector general and director general will be connected through the CCTNS.

The director of state crime records bureau, M. Akshya, is the nodal officer of the CCTNS in Odisha, he said. The CCTNS, which is part of the common integrated police application, is a project under the e-governance plan of the central government.

It aims at creating a comprehensive and integrated system to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of policing through adopting principles of e-governance and creation of a nation-wide networking infrastructure for evolution of IT-enabled-state-of-the-art tracking system for investigation of crime and detection of criminals, sources said.
