Bhubaneswar, March 2: A 44-year-old schoolteacher died in a road accident at Satsang Vihar Square on National Highway-5 this morning while her husband sustained severe injuries.
Tension gripped the area as local residents blocked the road for a while following the accident. The mob was dispersed and the road cleared after the body was shifted to Capital Hospital.
Police identified the woman as Sumati Datta, 44, a teacher of Vir Surendra Sai Vidyamandir at VSS Nagar. She was riding pillion on her husband Debasish Mitra’s motorcycle and was going towards Vani Vihar Square.
“A bus coming from the Rasulgarh side hit the two-wheeler from behind. The woman fell down and the four-wheeler ran her over,” said Anil Rout, an eyewitness. Debasish sustained severe injuries on his legs and was rushed to Capital Hospital.
“We rushed the woman to hospital but she was declared brought dead. We have registered a complaint against the bus driver,” said a police officer.
