Tathagata meets CM
Bhubaneswar: BJD’s Dhenkanal MP Tathagata Satpathy on Saturday met party president and chief minister Naveen Patnaik at his residence in New Delhi. It was not known what transpired between them. However, Satpathy said he apprised Naveen about the recent development in Bhadrak. Satpathy had shot into limelight recently following his remarks that the BJP was trying to split his party with the help of one MP from the BJD.
Maoist attack
Rayagada: A state government-run liquor shop was torched by 12 armed Maoists at Raghubari village within Ambadala police limits here on Friday. The rebels also set a motorcycle, which was kept on the premises of the liquor shop, on fire and beat up three members of staff. The rebels left behind posters mentioning their opposition to Operation Green Hunt and called for a “liquor-free Odisha”.
Teacher dead
Berhampur: A schoolteacher died after being run over by Hirakhand Express near Sabulia in Ganjam on Saturday morning. The deceased has been identified as Harekrushna Sahu, headmaster of Sabulia UGME School.
Explosion
Keonjhar: At least two workers died and three others suffered injuries following an oil tank explosion at a steel company at Bolani in Keonjhar on Friday. The injured were admitted to the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) hospital while the bodies of the deceased were recovered on Saturday.
Body found
Sambalpur: A newborn baby boy was found floating in a canal near Gopalpali in Sambalpur on Saturday. Sources said that the infant was kept in a basket and dumped in the canal. Local residents rescued the baby in a critical condition and admitted him to Sambalpur Sadar Hospital, but the doctors declare him brought dead.
Robber held
Bhubaneswar: The Government Railway Police on Saturday arrested a robber from the city railway station here. Gopal Chandra Mishra, 25, a resident of Narajpur, was held on charges of looting a passenger.
