Sambalpur, March 26: Traffic travails at the busy Laxmi Talkies Chhak will be a thing of the past as the works department has taken steps to build a flyover there.
A Bhubaneswar-based private consultancy firm, S.K. Associates, has been assigned the responsibility of conducting a survey and preparing a detailed proposal for the flyover.
The flyover will be built over the Golebazaar-Ainthapali stretch, which runs through Laxmi Talkies Chhak.
“The private firm has begun the survey. After the report is submitted, we will prepare the plan and estimate for the flyover,” said P.K. Nath, assistant executive engineer of the roads and buildings division of the works department.
“The construction of a flyover will solve traffic problems at this square, which is located in the heart of the city,” said Nath.
Satya Sunder Dash, senior consultant of S.K. Associates, said: “We have already conducted the survey for the flyover. Movement of vehicles on this road is more than 1,000 passenger-car units per hour. A proposal will be submitted for the construction of a flyover on the Golebazaar-Ainthapali stretch, one of the busiest in the city.”
The proposal is for a two-lane flyover.
At present, motorists have to negotiate snarls at the Laxmi Talkies Chhak throughout the day.
“A flyover will definitely ease the pressure of vehicles at this point,” said Antaryami Panigrahi, a commuter.
“Once the flyover is built, commuters will be relieved,” said local resident Sanjaya Mohanty.
