Jamshedpur, May 24: Frustrated over not getting a job at Tata Steel and unable to make a decent living with his paltry earnings as an autorickshaw driver, a 28-year-old man slashed his left wrist yesterday morning at his residence in Premnagar, Telco.

Inderjeet Sharma, who was rushed to MGM Medical College and Hospital by his parents, is recuperating. The father of three, whose wife Munni was away in Bihar to attend a family wedding, said that he wanted to end his life as he was not getting a job.

“Though my name is registered with Tata Steel under the employee wards employment scheme, I have to drive an auto-rickshaw. I was depressed after realising I stand no chance of getting a Tata Steel job in lieu of my father’s service,” Sharma told The Telegraph from the hospital bed.

Inderjeet said he was drunk last night and slashed his wrist at 9am while still in a stupor.

“I can hardly feed my children. I have to depend on my father, a retired person. I wanted to end my life, but my parents rescued me,” he said.

A doctor said the man had lost considerable blood. “Had he been brought to the hospital a little later, anything could have happened. But he is out of danger now,” he said.
