Bhubaneswar: The government has chosen 262 schools of six districts for coverage in the first phase of Mo School campaign, which is planned at revamping school education system in the state.
The districts are Bhadrak, Bargarh, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, Kalahandi and Nuapada.
"In the subsequent days, all the schools of the state will be covered under the campaign," said B.S. Poonia, who is heading the project.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik launched the Mo School campaign on Children's Day last year in response to a philanthropic interest from the alumni of various schools of the state who are now living in various parts of the country and also in abroad.
Mo School is an initiative that aims to create a platform for people to connect, collaborate and contribute to revamping the school education system in the state. It is a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, a citizen-government partnership, in which the former leads in designing the programme, defining its goals and directing its implementation.
Funds for the implementation of the Mo School programme shall come primarily from two sources - contribution from donors, and twice the amount of each such contribution provided from a dedicated corpus fund of Rs 100 crores created initially for the purpose by the government.
The Mo School Executive Council will run the everyday affairs supported by a governing council and a board of advisors, both of which will comprise, among others, thought leaders, educationists, social scientists, and notable people in the fields of art, architecture, design, advertising, communication, film-making, literature, science, technology, sports and public administration.
An amount of Rs 10 lakh was donated by the alumni of Unit-9 Boys' High School here for development of the school.
"The amount will be used to cover diverse areas - such as infrastructure development, improving mid-day meal, coaching support and creating educational content among others," added Poonia.
