Bhubaneswar, May 2: Artists from the applied art department of B.K. College of Fine Arts and Crafts showcased novel and creative designs at an exhibition titled Kalpana, which was inaugurated on Wednesday.

The exhibition showcases the works of young artists of the final-year of the department who have displayed their skills in product designing campaigns for advertisements.

Each of the 11 art students have chosen a different product and designed installations, flexes, posters, calendars and many other forms to promote the item.

A huge ice cream designed by Mukesh Kumar Ojha looks quite tempting for visitors who seem to be drawn towards it.

In order to make his fibre sculpture realistic, Ojha has added other campaign designs such as posters and calendars that are noteworthy.

“I chose my product carefully so that I get a lot of options to show my creativity in the design campaign,” said the young artist.

The same applied to Biplab Bhesra’s advertisement campaign for a geyser and Deepak Panda’s weatherproof camera. Visitors appeared amazed with the interesting captions and publicity designs that used innovation of art in the two products..

“The colour combinations and the fine art displayed by Biplab are inspiring, while in Deepak’s work, the camera looks quite real and his advertisement has good copywriting too,” said art student Shubhra Priyadarshini.

From saris, music players, face creams and others, the youngsters not only demonstrated their dexterity in art but the ability to capture the viewers’ mind by the way of designing the ad-campaign intelligently so as to promote a product.

“It was fun to create the ad designs. Most of us had to turn models for the advertisements and we even shot some ad films. Though production of films is not a part of our art course, we got a chance to learn much in the process,” said Rubi Chaurasia, a student.

The art show has been a successful endeavour to give young artists a forum to interact with viewers, said the principal of B.K. College of Arts and Crafts, Baladev Maharatha.

“The exhibition is a tradition for the applied arts department of our college wherein fourth-year students prepare a campaign for various utility products through flex prints, calendars, magazine and newspaper advertisements. They also create other interesting and appealing ways of branding the different products and work on the copywriting as well,” he said.

The exhibition will continue till May 5.
