Bhubaneswar, March 26: Balangir royal family members, who have been representing the district in Lok Sabha and Assembly, have seen a steady rise in their wealth in the past 10 years.
The property of BJD leader Anang Uday Singh Deo has gone up by 10 times in the last decade. While his total wealth was Rs 43,84,709 in 2004, it stands at Rs 4,43,88,610 now.
His affidavit shows that the net worth of the six-time MLA has increased by Rs 20 lakh in the past month, compared to the declaration he made when filling his papers for the Rajya Sabha in February. His wife, Vijaya Laxmi Devi’s assets has risen by around 18.5 times during this period.
A.U. Singh Deo owns only a Cadilac. While his wife has jewellery worth Rs 24 lakh, an increase of Rs 6 lakh in its value, the value of his jewellery remains Rs 9.11 lakh as it was in 2009.
The value of the property of his son, Kalikesh Singh Deo, who is contesting from the Balangir Lok Sabha seat, has gone up by six times in the past 10 years. But, the net worth of his spouse, Rajyalaxmi Rana, a royal from Nepal, has gone down by Rs 5 lakh in the past five years. But, she owns jewellery worth Rs 1.11 crore.
Kalikesh owns five vehicles whose value is around Rs 24 lakh. He has jewellery worth around Rs 19,70,000, which is more than two times what he owned in 2009.
Kalikesh’s sister-in-law, Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo, is contesting from the Balangir Lok Sabha seat on a BJP ticket. Sangeeta is the wife of K.V. Singh Deo, who is the BJP state president and a candidate for the Patnagarh Assembly seat. Though the immovable properties of the couple have gone up, their movable properties have declined in the past 10 years.
Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo, a three-time MP from Balangir between 1996 and 2009, does not own any vehicle. The affidavit shows that there has been no substantial increase in the couple’s jewellery.
The assets of Prakriti Devi Singh Deo, another Balangir royal, contesting from the Patnagarh Assembly seat have also gone up since 2009, when she lost the election. Her net worth has gone up from around Rs 17.5 lakh to around Rs 78.5 lakh. Her husband, S.V. Singh Deo, owns two vehicles worth Rs 27 lakh.
