Bhubaneswar: The ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship and with the National Skill Development Corporation on Wednesday announced the launch of the India Skills Regional Competitions (East) in Bhubaneswar.

The event will be held at Siksha 'O' Anusandhan University from July 15 to 17.

The three-day event will witness a camp by professional counsellors, over 50 exhibitions by sector skill councils, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras and other technology partners, along with conference and seminars with different stakeholders in the skills ecosystem.

This is the last of the four such regional competitions organised across India this year. The three-day skill competition in Bhubaneswar will witness more than 250 competitors from 23 states, with majority of them from the seven eastern states of Odisha, Bihar, Assam, Nagaland, Tripura, Jharkhand and Meghalaya, competing in 27 skills and trades.

The winners from all the four regional competitions will compete in a national competition to be held in Delhi from October 2 to October 5.

The winners at the national competition will undergo intensive industry training and get a chance to represent India at World Skills International Competition to be held in Kazan, Russia, in August 2019.

World Skills International is the largest skill competition in the world, organised once every two years in one of the member countries. More than 1,300 contestants below the age of 23, compete for gold, silver and bronze medals, in over 50 skills. The competition is held over four days.

Several other initiatives such as recognition of prior learning with best-in-class employers, new framework for apprenticeship training, guidelines for training-of-trainers and training-of-assessors among others, will be launched during the event.

The foundation stone of the National Skill Training Institute, Bhubaneswar, at Barang near Bhubaneswar would be laid on July 16 as a part of the event.

This would be the first green field institute in the country that would provide a variety of hybrid skill training programmes, both long term and short term, apart from advance diploma-type programmes.

"The National Skill Training Institute would provide training in Systems Applications Products (SAP), Internet of things (IoT) - Smart Cities, health care and agriculture, mobile repairing, solar technician and technician mechatronics, advance diploma in IT networking and cloud computing, training of trainers (ToT) in pedagogy for sector skill councils, ToT for conventional courses - fitter, electrician, plumbing and welding etc," said Jaikant Singh of National Skill Development Corporation.

While the state government has provided five acres free of cost for the purpose, the entire expenditure on account of campus construction, labs, classrooms, hostel and equipment would be incurred by the Centre.
