Bhubaneswar, July 28: Ranga Bharati, the annual workshop of Uttar Purusha theatre troupe, concluded with the play Dhadi Ramayana.

The satire on the modern day touts with the use of Ramayan as a metathrophor was staged at Bhanja Kala Mandap here. The play directed by Abinna Routray is based on Bengali writer Manoj Mitra's story Puti Ramayan.

"The aim of the workshop was to hone the skills of the participants in acting and making them aware of various aspects of theatre, which would help them to broaden their theatrical horizon. We focused on a holistic approach towards acting," said Routray, who is also the workshop coordinator.

About 25 aspiring theatre artistes from diverse backgrounds took part in the workshop.

For Rohan Yadav, who played the character of Ravan in the play, the workshop was a learning experience. "Taking part in the workshop was a self-building process for the participants. It helped us to shed our inhibitions," he said.

The workshop focused on improvising body language apart from boosting theatre production skills. The trainers gave the participants the freedom to explore their creative pursuits at the workshop aimed at improving the basics of theatre.

"A number of youngsters from the state are taking up theatre as a profession. The workshop was a platform to give the artistes an exposure to garner and showcase their skills," said Routray.

Amrit, a participant, who learnt acting for seven years in Calcutta, said the workshop provided him the chance to brush up his skills and delve into his passion again.

"I got a chance to become a professional actor. I will definitely join a theatre troupe and try to balance between my academics and my passion," he said.
