Spotlight on youth welfare

The Centurion University will host the South Asian Youth Summit 2017 from September 17 to 20 in Bhubaneswar. The International Youth Committee, in collaboration with the Centre, state government and a few national and international youth forums, are organising the event.

The Centurion University will host the South Asian Youth Summit 2017 from September 17 to 20 in Bhubaneswar. The International Youth Committee, in collaboration with the Centre, state government and a few national and international youth forums, are organising the event. The summit will be a meeting point for representatives of youth networks, governments and civil society organisations. It will be conducted to identify priorities of action for youth to be dealt on the international development agenda beyond the sustainable development goals.

New VCs

Amarendra Narayan Mishra assumed office as the Khallikote Cluster University vice-chancellor on July 18. Mishra said he would emphasise on promoting quality education among students. NCC cadets gave him a guard of honour before he took the charge from the present vice-chancellor, Manmath Padhy. “My priority would be to see that the students get quality education and uphold the glory of the university,” he said. Mishra, an alumnus of the institute, said he would look into the issue of filling up vacant posts in the varsity.

Governor S.C. Jamir appointed Padmaja Mishra as the vice-chancellor of Ramadevi Women’s University for a three-year tenure. Mishra has been working as the officer on special duty in the varsity since May 31. She has 33 years of teaching experience and 30 national research publications to her credit. She was the professor of economics at Utkal University prior working for Ramadevi Women's University.

Entrance result

The entrance results for admission to various postgraduate courses at Fakir Mohan University in Balasore was published on July 18. Candidates are advised to visit the university website (www.fmuniversity.nic.in) to know the results and other details regarding date, venue and time of admission. The entrance examination was held on June 29 and 30. The admission into various courses will start from July 24.

Foundation day

The 11th foundation day of the Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University was hosted recently on the varsity premises in Bhubaneswar. Addressing a function organised on the eve of the foundation day, the university’s advisory board chairman Damodar Acharya said the varsity should be proud of its achievements during the past 10 years. Deans of the nine constituent schools of the university spoke on the development and plans of their own institutes. The varsity’s intellectual property rights cell was unveiled on the occasion with its co-ordinator Sushant Kumar Kamilla informing researchers that the varsity had already filed applications for 23 patents and five more were in the offing.

Street play 

The department of journalism and mass communication, electronics and tele-communication and bio-informatics of BJB Autonomous College hosted a street play on the campus in Bhubaneswar to create awareness among the students and teachers on e-waste management under the Digital India initiative. 

The play was enacted in the regional language to ensure that the message of waste segregation was conveyed to everyone. Principal Md Nawaz Hassan said the play was organised to convey the message to maximum number of students. Ten students of the college performed in the 30-minute play.
