Cuttack: Acting on information from two mobile thieves, police have formed a special team to track down the remaining members of the gang.

The cops nabbed two members of the gang from Chauliaganj area and recovered 12 mobile smart phones from them on Monday.

"Mobile theft is an organised crime in which a number of youngsters are professionally involved. They mainly target open houses and pedestrians," deputy commissioner of police, Cuttack, Akhileswar Singh said.

The cops arrested Prakash Sharma, 20, and Dubraj Chaki, 19, after Jagatsinghpur resident Madhusmita Parida, 23, who had come to her uncle's home at Chauliaganj, filed a theft complaint.

She kept her Samsung J7 phone on the bedroom window and fell asleep on January 25. When she got up an hour later, she found that the phone was missing. "We busted the gang during investigation. The gang members stole mobile phones from open houses through windows and also from persons on their way at Kabalyaviharn Gandarpur, Chauliaganj and other parts of Cuttack," Singh said.

Sharma and Chaki were arrested on theft charges after the cops found during the interrogation process that they had committed a series of thefts at various places across the city.

Their arrest led to the recovery of several high-end mobile phones, the police said.

Among the 12 phones that the police recovered from the two accused were six Samsung, four Micromax, a Redmi and a Lenovo model.
