Bhubaneswar, Jan. 1: A group of young photographers in Bhubaneswar recently released a conceptual calendar featuring issues that are at present the concerns of the society.
Titled Srijan, the calendar is a creative take on issues such as acid attack, dowry harassment, obsession towards social media, childhood pressures, religious misconceptions and pseudo-social activities, that are wrecking the social values and quality of life.
Stories have been created in the calendar using pictures to convey the message that it was high time to come out of the conventional mindset and recreate the society with modern values apt for the present time," said Saswat Sarangi, a photographer and an architect.
Apart from Saswat, entrepreneur Aman Agrawal, engineers Ramakant Patel and Durga Madhab were the masterminds behind the initiative. The group titled Lens has earlier created a number of photo stories on varies subjects.
It took around four months for the group to complete the shoot for the calendar. "All of us were busy with our professional work during the week so we worked at the weekends. The entire process was very exciting," said Ramakant.
In the first phase around 1000 copies of the calendar has been published.
"This is for a social case so we are not charging anything for the calendar. We hope the concept helps in creating awareness among people and interest in photography among the youngsters," says Durga.
Photography is just an imagination that helps to portray a story through pictures.
"It is not just clicking shutters to capture the moment but it is the portrayal of thought. Photography is a common subject of interest for us and the group was formed to bring a new style of creativity," said Aman.
Last year, the team had launched a similar calendar featuring the bond between humans and animals. Actress Prakruti Mishra and other models came together to pose for the calendar titled Dialect of Silent Emotions.
