Baripada, Jan. 21: Mayurbhanj police today arrested six persons for allegedly raping a young woman after brutally assaulting her husband here last night.

The 25-year-old victim faced the ordeal when she had gone to see her ailing brother at the district headquarters hospital along with her husband.

Two of the accused were working in the hospital as sweepers. The accused and the victim were medically examined. The culprits allegedly followed the woman and her husband when they had gone to a nearby river in the evening to relieve themselves.

Following a complaint, the police had registered a case under several sections and conducted raids on different places to nab the accused.

“We have arrested all the six accused. After interrogations we will produce them before court,” said Gangoi, inspector in charge of Baripada town police station.

“We could arrest them because the victim could identify all of them,” he said.
