Bhubaneswar: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday grilled Sanjit Samal, son-in-law of Odisha Olympic Association former secretary Ashirbad Behera, in the Barabati Palace case.
Samal was the partner of M/s Incon Associates, the firm which was roped in for construction of a kalyan mandap (banquet hall) named Barabati Palace. Samal, who was summoned by the ED a couple of days ago, appeared before the agency around 10.30am on Thursday and was questioned for more than three hours.
"I was questioned in connection with Barabati Palace. I have placed all facts before them. I am not involved in any kind of corruption," said Samal to reporters after coming out of the ED office.
Sources said Samal was asked whether his father-in-law had shown undue favour to him for leasing out the land. Besides, the agency had also asked for financial benefits from the banquet hall. The ED had registered a case under Prevention of Money Laundering Act against Behera and M/s Incon Associates.
As many as 23 shops and Barabati Palace were constructed on 0.705 acres encroached on by the Odisha Olympic Association, which lies adjacent to the 20.808 acres leased out to the association by the government in 1949 for construction of the stadium. The association had claimed that they had leased out the place for financial benefit.
