Sambalpur: Power crisis in various thermal plants has meant doom for the residents of this town who are suffering from power-cut for two hours almost everyday.

With the daily peak load requirement of about 3,800MW, the state is getting about 3,000MW-3,200MW of power. The State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC), Bhubaneswar, has been forced to impose the power-cut to make up for the shortage.

"This power cut is not permanent, power generation will improve," SLDC general manager, Bhubaneswar, Umakanta Sahu said on Monday.

On the other hand, consumers are not able to accept the power cut during this winter season. Power cut in the state has become normal phenomena in peak summer season.

"If the power is off for two hours everyday during the winter, then what will happen during the summer when power consumption rises manifold times?" asked Narendra Kumar Raiguru, a trade union leader of electricity workers union of Wesco.

The power cut is affecting the study of the students as their half-yearly examination is approaching.

"We are finding it difficult to study in the evenings with darkness all around and mosquito bites," said high school student Sankar Purohit.

The ongoing Palishree Mela of the state government and annual drama festival in Sambalpur have also been affected by the power cut.
