Bhubaneswar, Aug. 27: The development authority has planned to start a toy train on the premises of Gourishankar Sahani Park in Sambalpur like the one at the Nandankanan zoo in the city.
The estimated budget for the project is Rs 31 lakh.
"The detailed project report is being prepared and tender will be floated after the completion of the report," said chairman of Sambalpur Development Authority Bijay Mohanty.
"The toy train will attract children from across the city to the park," said local resident Gopinath Pruseth.
Besides introducing the toy train, fountains and decorative lights will also be installed in the park, Mohanty said.
The train, fountains and decorative lights will come up in the park within a period of four months from handing over the work order to the executing firm, the chairman of development authority said.
Joyrides for children and fitness equipment worth Rs 8 lakh have been installed at the park recently.
Earlier, the development authority, responsible for maintenance of parks, had undertaken the construction of boundary wall, walking track, sitting arrangements and landscaping in the park at an estimated cost of about Rs 40 lakh.
The development authority had established the Gourishankar Sahani Park in 2009 covering an area of 1.28 acre.
The Western Odisha Freedom Fighters' Memorial Hall and Museum is also being developed on the park premises. The two-storeyed building for the memorial hall and museum is being constructed for Rs 1.05 crore provided by the Western Odisha Development Council.
A source in the Sambalpur Development Authority said a firm had been entrusted to carry out the interiors of the building for Rs 70 lakh by February next year.
