Keonjhar, April 21: With the arrest of six persons, the Barbil police today claimed to have busted an inter-state dacoit gang.

Police also seized one double barrel pistol, one single shot pistol, two bullets and two bhujali and six mobile phones from them.

The arrested criminals had been operating mainly in the mineral rich Joda and Barbil region in Keonjhar district for the past couple of years with the help of local link, police said.

The dacoits were identified as Rout Gope alias Raja (29) and Manoj Gope (30) of Jharkhand, Arun Kumbhar (29) of Bihar, Tapan Patra (23) and Bijay Kumar Nayak (21) of Jhadagaon in Badbil and Hrudananda Das (30) of Koida in Sundargarh.

Police said they had nabbed the criminals when they were planning to execute a robbery in a fuel bunk at Bhadrasahi under Barbil police station limits late last night.

The criminals were also involved in many other major crimes in the area, they said.

“We arrested six persons of the gang late last night when they were planning to commit a robbery at a petrol pump at Bhadrasahi,” said K.C. Parida, inspector in-charge (IIC) of Barbil police station.

We are in the process of nabbing the other accused persons of the gang,” Parida added.

“These criminals were involved in many criminal. With their arrest we hope that the criminal activities would come down in the mineral rich Barbil and Joda area in Keonjhar district,” said Parida.

Local police got a link of the goons from a local member of the gang in Barbil who had provided shelter and logistic facility to the criminals.

Acting on the tip-off Barbil police arrested three members of the gang from Jharkhand and Bihar.

They had reportedly confessed to their involvement in several bank and petrol pump robberies and other cases both in Orissa and Jharkhand, police said.

“They all confessed to their crimes and admitted that they had been operating in the bordering areas of Orissa and Jharkhand,” Parida said.

The dacoits were identified as Rout Gope alias Raja (29), Manoj Gope (30), both residents of Chakradharpur in Jharkhand, Arun Kumbhar (29) of Bihar, Tapan Patra (23), Bijay Kumar Nayak (21) both residents of Jhadagaon in Badbil and Hrudananda Das (30) of Koida, in Sundargarh had been involved in a number of dacoities and robberies cases before.

Working on the lead received from the local member of the gang, Barbil police arrested three veterans of the dacoit gang from neighbouring Jharkhand and Bihar states.

They reportedly confessed to their involvement in several bank and petrol pump dacoities and major robbery cases both in Orissa and Jharkhand, police said.

“They all confessed to their crimes and admitted that they were operating in boarding areas of Orissa and Jharkhand,' the IIC added.
