Sambalpur: The municipal corporation has drawn up an ambitious project for the beautification of Ring road in the city.
The 3km Ring road from Mandella Chowk to Kacheri Chowk will be developed on the bank of river Mahanadi. Under the project, a footpath will be constructed from one end to another besides six viewpoints with landscaping along the riverbed.
A Calcutta-based company has prepared the detailed project report at an estimated cost of Rs9.14 crore, said an official source.
In 2014, chief minister Naveen Patnaik laid the foundation stone of the project, which was pending implementation due to allotment of funds.
The municipal corporation will implement the project. The tender of the first phase from Samaleswari temple to Kamali bazaar has been floated for Rs 99lakh. The total project will be constructed in six phases, which will be completed with in a year. In the initial phases, two viewpoints will be constructed with footpath having lighting posts. In the second phase, work will be taken up from Kamali Bazaar to Balibandha ghat.
There is also plan for construction of a huge pandal of 80 by 17 metres near Kacheri area. A park with food points will come up for the amusement of the people. The river bathing ghats will be renovated by fixing of tiles with special lighting arrangements and varieties of ornamental plants. Statues will also be installed there, said a source in the municipal corporation.
The viewpoint will be covered by roof for protect against rain and sun.
