Bhubaneswar, June 22: Goons assaulted a 32-year-old businessman at Siripur near Khandagiri late last night after he resisted lewd remarks passed by them at his wife.

Police have arrested one of the accused based on the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage of the locality. The goons also damaged the car of the victim, Swarup Das.

The businessman alleged that the group of miscreants started passing lewd remarks at his wife when both of them were returning from a marriage reception last night.

"When I objected to it, one of them assaulted me with stones. They also damaged my car," alleged Das.

Das's wife alleged that the goons were in an inebriated condition.

"I protested when they passed lewd remarks at me. When my husband protested, it led to an altercation. They assaulted my husband and fled away from the spot," alleged the lady.

The main accused has been identified as Uday Sahu (29). "We have nabbed Sahu. We are trying to identify other accused in the case and they will be nabbed soon," said deputy commissioner of police Satyabrata Bhoi.

Local residents blamed illegal sale of liquor in the area till late night for the incident.
