Koraput: A five-member probe team of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday visited Kunduli and called upon family members of the alleged gang-rape victim, who had killed herself on January 22.
The team led by deputy superintendent of police Rabi Singh, accompanied by district officials and security personnel in plainclothes, reached Musaguda village in Pottangi police limits and met family members of the victim, who was a Class IX student. The girl had alleged that she was gang-raped by uniformed men, a charge police had later denied, on October 10 last year.
During their visit, the team thoroughly examined the spot where the alleged gang-rape had taken place, the school at Sorisopodar where the victim studied and the room in her home where she had committed suicide.
At Musaguda, the team spoke to four family members of the victim, three teachers of the school, two employees of the photography studio at Kunduli where the victim had taken a passport photo before the alleged incident took place. They also spoke to a classmate of the victim.
"From the day of the incident to the circumstances in which the victim was forced to commit suicide will be investigated. We are trying to collect as much as information from the victim's family members, her friends, schoolteachers and villagers," Singh said.
"Any villager who wants to share any information on the incident with us is welcome," he said.
The team is also scheduled to visit the Kunduli community health centre and Pottangi police station. The district administration had engaged four interpreters for them.
On Wednesday, the team is scheduled to interact with at least 17 medical personnel, including doctors, of Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital at Koraput, where the victim was treated.
The team will leave Koraput on February 9 and submit its report to the commission within 15 days.
