Girl students of Sambalpur University and Fakir Mohan University, Balasore, outshone their male counterparts with better marks in the final year graduation results that were announced yesterday.
Sambalpur University
Out of the 21 subjects, girls fared well in 17 with the pass percentage for commerce being highest at 94.4 per cent. An overwhelming 84.36 per cent of arts students have cleared the exam with honours, while the success rate for science honours students stands at 60.13 per cent.
Among students without honours, the pass rate is 87.86 per cent for arts, 65.87 per cent for science and 72.64 per cent for commerce.
In commerce, Sonam Agrawal of Municipal College, Rourkela, topped the university. Sebati Behera of Women’s College, Sambalpur, topped in anthropology while Lopamudra Pradhan of Dadhibaman College, Bhatli in Bargarh district, topped in economics. Sandhya Naik of Dadhibaman College has topped in education, Shilpa Sahu of S.G. Women’s College, Rourkela, in English, Sangita Mahakur of Women’s College, Sambalpur, in geography, Sradhha Kedia of Women’s College, Jharsuguda, in Hindi, Surabhi Bhoi of Women’s College, Bargarh, in home science and Madhumita Karna of Women’s College, Bargarh, in Oriya.
The list of others who have stood first include Fulandevi Padhee of Bonaigarh College in philosophy, Anuradha Sharma of Women’s College Bargarh in psychology, Sameer Kumar Patel of Sundergarh Government College in Sanskrit, Swagatika Rath of NilasailaMahavidyalaya,Rourkela, in sociology, Manju Sinku of Sambalpur Women’s college in botany, Balram Pradhan of Attabira college in chemistry, Arundhati Raju of Jawahar College, Patnagarh in computer science, Ayusi Patel of Sundergarh Government College in geology, Gouranga Charan Sahu of Boudh Panchayat College in mathematics. Samita Meher of Sonepur College in physics and Pranati Padhee of Boudh Panchayat College in zoology.
A total of 2,847 students out of 3,381 arts students have passed the final degree examination of Sambalpur University. In honours subject, 240 candidates have secured first division. In subjects without honours, out of 8,530 students, 7249 students have passed the examination and 188 students did it with distinction.
In science, out of 964 students who had appeared the examination, 576 have passed with 178 securing first division. For those without honours, 523 of 797 students have cleared the examination and 104 students have passed with distinction.
In commerce, 409 of 438 students cleared the exam and 106 secured first division. A total of 730 out of 1,006 students have passed with distinction in non-honours category.
Fakir Mohan University, Balasore
At the Fakir Mohan University, Balasore, girls have topped the list in 13 out of 16 subjects. The overall pass percentage of the university, with 57 colleges under its management, stands at 74 per cent.
Bhagyalaxmi Bal of the U.N. College, Soro topped in Botany. The others who secured top positions from the colleges are Bijaylaxmi Panda (chemistry), Smita Panigrahi (maths), Biiswaranjan Behera (physics), Ipsita Dash (zoology), Sandeep Jena (economics) and Jyotsnarani Patra (maths) and Krusna Chandra Samal (commerce).
K.K.S. Women’s College has performed well among women colleges.
Those who secured first position in different streams from here are Anindita Nanda (psychology), Rajashree Panigrahi (sanskrit) and Naznin Sagufta (home science).
The toppers of other subjects are Maheswar Behera (education) of Agarapada college, Lipika Das (English) of Sidhheswar College in Amarda, Rajasri Behera (history) of Dhamnagar College, Tapasi Kunar (Oriya) of D.K. College in Jaleswar, Samita Jena (philosophy) of K.C.P. College in Jagai, Sasmita Sahu (sociology) of Chandbali College and Rabin Sahu (biotechnology) of LIST in Balasore.
BJB Autonomous College
Here, the pass percentage for arts, science and commerce stand at 88, 86 and 90 per cent respectively. Out of 24 different subjects under the three streams, girls have stood first in 19 subjects. College authorities said Suchana Sarangi of physics department, who has secured highest marks in science stream, was declared as the best graduate of the college.
Nupur Chandgotia emerged as the arts topper, while Bibhuti Bhushan Rath topped in commerce. Of the 785 students who had appeared for the exam, 441 passed in first division while 94 failed to clear the tests. In arts, of the 443 students, 181 have cleared the exam securing first division. Similarly, in science, 71 of the 94 students passed in the first division. In commerce, 153 of the 248 candidates secured first division.
Last year, the success rate was around 89 per cent with girls bagging top honours in most of the subjects.
Hemanta Kumar Mohapatra, chief examination controller of the college, said: “The result has been quite satisfactory this time and in comparison to the previous year, there has been a slight improvement in the pass percentage.” Mohapatra added girls have been faring better since their strength was higher.
The results are also available online at www.orissaresults.nic.in and www.bjbcollege.in' www.bjbcollege.in. Marksheets would be provided to candidates between June 1 and 4, Mohapatra said.
Ramadevi Women’s Autonomous College
The total pass percentage stands at 95 per cent at Ramadevi Autonomous College. Out of 627 students, 395 got first division, whereas 34 students failed to clear the test. The pass percentage for arts, commerce and science is 95, 97 and 93 per cent respectively.
Apramita Chand of chemistry bagged the best graduate title. In arts, 215 out of 403 students secured first class marks, while in commerce, 98 out of 119 students cleared the exam with first division. In science, 82 out of 105 candidates passed with first division. Saswati Swagtika of economics emerged as the topper in arts, while Ayushee Dey topped the commerce stream.
In arts, departments of economics, mathematics and political science recorded 100 per cent pass rate. In commerce, accounting honours managed to do a 100 per cent. This trend was also marked in departments of mathematics, physics and zoology.
