Bhubaneswar, May 29: Parents and students of various CBSE schools demonstrated at the board office today in protest against marks discrepancies, especially the candidates, whose results were withheld.

Though the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) results were declared yesterday morning, those of around 10,000 students from the state got withheld because of technical glitches. While the results of some students were declared late in the evening, those of the others are yet to come out. Parents of the affected students threatened to approach Orissa High Court tomorrow. Holding posters, the protesters today demanded immediate action by the board to correct the errors and declare results at the earliest.

Pankajini Dash, a parent, was almost on the verge of tears with her daughter scoring less than 15 in mathematics. She said: "My daughter had scored around over 9 CGPA in her Class X examination. This time, she had expected to score over 90 per cent. All her teachers are shocked with her marks."

"Most of the cases of low marks were of the students, whose results got withheld. In a rush to bring out the results, the board has just awarded random marks," alleged Dash.

A number of students have scored single-digit marks in all the subjects. "In my pre-board exam, I had scored 80 per cent in all my subjects. I am in shock to see that I have scored 9 in mathematics and 8 in chemistry. I had expected more than 85 in both the subjects," said Prince Mohapatra, a student.

Parents said the board authorities had not been co-operative. "There was no one at the office yesterday. We were waiting for the results all day long, and when it was declared in the evening, I came to know my child failed. Since the morning, there had been no concrete reply from the authorities to our questions," said Monalisa Satpathy, a parent.

Parents' association convener Sudarshan Dash said they would take legal recourse and move the high court tomorrow. The parents have submitted a memorandum to the board's regional office and also forwarded the same to the Chief Minister's Office. "We have spoken to the headquarters. We are hopeful that action will be taken at the earliest," said the board's assistant secretary of the region Manish Agarwal.

The CBSE Class XII results were announced yesterday. Around 58,935 students appeared for the examination from the Bhubaneswar region (Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Bengal). Sources said that over 15,000 students had taken the examination from the state, while approximately 85 per cent passed.
