Region comes 3rd in Class X CBSE exam

The Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Bengal region came third in the country (out of a total 10) for recording a high pass percentage in the CBSE Class X results that were announced today.

Bhubaneswar, May 28: The Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Bengal region came third in the country (out of a total 10) for recording a high pass percentage in the CBSE Class X results that were announced today.

A total of 67,711 candidates appeared for the board examination from this region, of whom 65,182 cleared the test. The pass percentage this year is 96.26. Last year's pass percentage was slightly higher at 96.37.

A total of 39,743 boys took the test this year of whom 38,123 passed, making the pass percentage 95.92. The number of girls appearing was 27,968, of whom 27,059 cleared the exam, taking the pass percentage to 96.75.

"I am happy with the results. I worked very hard all year and I want to keep up the momentum and do well in future," said Subham Parida, a student of DAV Public School, Pokhariput, who got cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 10 in the examination.

Students of other schools in the city affiliated to CBSE have also performed well in the examination this year.

CBSE regional officer Lakhan Lal Meena told The Telegraph that the number of schools have increased as have the number of students this year. He said: "Our affiliated schools have performed exceedingly well. Our region has also secured the third position in the country for recording a high pass percentage. The other two well performing regions were Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala and Chennai. in Tamil Nadu"

The pass percentage in the state remained at 98.56 as compared to 95.58 per cent of Bengal and 94.81 per cent of Chhattisgarh. Last year also, the state had a of 98.63 pass percentage.

Students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya have performed well again this year as compared to other schools. The pass percentage of Navodaya schools was 99.23. The performance of government schools has showed a marked improvement this year. The schools secured a pass rate of 93.34 per cent as compared to last year's 82.47.

However, the Kendriya Vidyalayas in the state recorded a fall in pass rate.

The pass percentage in these schools has dropped to 97.63 per cent from 99.08 last year. Private schools affiliated to CBSE have secured a 95.94 percentage rate while the Central Tibetan School Administration achieved a pass rate of 97.74 per cent in the region.
