Cuttack, June 25: Ravenshaw University has fixed a new criterion for students seeking admissions into its postgraduate courses.

In the entrance examination, which is scheduled to begin from tomorrow, the aspirants will have to score a minimum of 30 per cent marks to be considered eligible for admissions.

“Only students securing 30 per cent and above marks will qualify for admissions and those securing less than that will be rejected automatically,” said Smrutiprava Das, chairperson of Ravenshaw University’s admission committee.

While choosing candidates for its postgraduate programmes, the university will give equal importance to their performance in the entrance examination and their past academic performance.

The varsity offers 28 postgraduate courses, including six self-financing courses such as information technology and science, information technology and management and journalism and mass communication. There are 1,200 postgraduate seats at Ravenshaw. The university will run the six self-financing courses from this academic session.

The university has received more than 11,500 online applications for various postgraduate courses against 10,538 applications last year.

The entrance examination is scheduled to be held at two places — Cuttack and Bhawanipatna — tomorrow.

Candidates will have to report at least one hour before the entrance examination, which will be conducted in two shifts from 9am to 11am and from 2pm to 4pm.

Official sources said the entrance examination would conclude on June 30 and the admission process was likely to start by the second week of July.

In another related development, the university has so far received nearly 8,000 online applications for its undergraduate courses. The number of applications is expected to exceed 10,000 as the last date of online application has been extended till June 26.

Ravenshaw University offers undergraduate courses in the arts (522 seats), sciences (352 seats), commerce (452 seats) and business administration (192 seats).

The first selection list, along with the dates of admissions, will be published after 10 days of the last date of receiving online applications, said a varsity official.
