Bhubaneswar, Sept. 5: The gangrape case, in which a college student was sexually assaulted inside a moving vehicle on June 10, has taken a new turn with victim’s father today alleging that she had been forced into a sex racket.
The father, Bipin Das, who came to lodge a complaint at the Mahila police station here, even produced a blue film CD claiming that his daughter had featured in it. The girl, however, not only contested her father’s claim but also slapped him in full public view when he was coming out of the State Women’s Commission office in Satya Nagar after meeting concerned officials.
Later, both the father and the daughter lodged separate complaints with regard to the violence outside the women’s commission office. The girl and her acquaintance, Uttam Jena, with whose family she had been staying in Phulnakhara on city outskirts, were detained by Kharavela Nagar police following her father’s complaint.
The girl was allegedly raped by two persons known to her, who had offered her a lift while she was waiting to catch a bus near Master Canteen Square on June 10. The accused, Manoranjan Sahu and Ajay Malia, both businessmen, had allegedly recorded the assault on their mobile phone cameras. They were arrested on June 13, three days after the case, and sent to jail. The girl identified them during the test identification parade in Jharapada jail on June 29.
The victim’s father, a resident of Pipli, went to the Mahila police station this morning to lodge a complaint alleging his daughter had been forced into a sex racket by Uttam Jena, the person with whose family she had been staying for the last two years.
He also carried with him a CD that allegedly had videos of his 18-year-old daughter in compromising positions.
Later, he went to the State Women’s Commission’s office in Satya Nagar. He was allegedly assaulted by his daughter when he was leaving the office.
Another person accompanying the father had a scuffle with Jena, who was also present at the spot along with the girl.
“Taking advantage of our poverty, he (Jena) brought my daughter to Bhubaneswar to teach his children while she could pursue her education in the city. But he forced her into flesh trade and was making porn videos of her, of which I have proof,” said Das.
The Mahila police, however, refused to take his complaint saying he should lodge it either at Pipli police station, where he stayed or at Cuttack Sadar police station, under whose limits his daughter was staying now. Das had earlier lodged a complaint with the Pipli police on June 17 making the same allegations. The case is under investigation.
After the Mahila police refused to register a case, Das went to the State Women’s Commission seeking intervention of its chairperson to save his daughter from the clutches of Jena.
The girl, however, rubbished his allegations. “My father has taken money from the complainants and brought these allegations. His behaviour has hurt me,” she said.
Jena said that the accused, who had been trying to put pressure on them to withdraw the case, had sought to use her father. “He has accepted money from the accused to weaken the case. The CD is doctored,” said Jena.
