Kendrapara: Police on Tuesday arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly raping a college student at knife point on January 24.

The accused, Smruti Ranjan Samal, 24, was booked under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and was forwarded to court. Later, he was sent to jail as a local court dismissed his bail plea, said inspector of Sadar police station Kabuli Rout.

The woman, a Plus Three final-year student, was allegedly raped on January 24 while she was on her way back home after attending Saraswati Puja in her college.

Samal had offered her lift on his motorcycle on her way back home. But, he stopped the bike midway and dragged her to a deserted spot, where he raped her brandishing a sharp-edged knife. He had also taken her nude photographs, said the police officer, quoting the woman's complaint.
