Cuttack, July 2: The Crime Branch today arrested police inspector Ajit Kumar Swain following a lady police officer’s complaint accusing him of rape, blackmail and physical and mental torture for nearly 13 years.
Additional director general of police (CID-Crime Branch) B.K. Sharma said: “Swain was arrested from Mancheswar area in Bhubaneswar. He will be produced before the court of judicial magistrate (first class), Soro, in Balasore district tomorrow.”
The sub-inspector had alleged that her ordeal begin in 2001 when she joined the police in Keonjhar. Swain was then in charge of Patana police station. She was forced into a sexual relationship with him and later, the accused had threatened to circulate a video recording of their intimate moments.
The victim said she had got married in 2004. But the marriage was “dissolved” as the accused inspector “misled” her husband “by showing him the video recording of the incident” and he “died due to depression”.
Thereafter, she got married to another person. She is trying to lead a peaceful life with their son. She was transferred to Rourkela in 2009 and is now posted at Simulia.
She has alleged that the accused had been trying to blackmail her by calling her from different mobile numbers and threatening her of dire consequences if she did not continue to have a sexual relationship with him.
Swain will undergo a medical test. “A special team led by a deputy superintendent of police had been carrying out raids in different parts of the state to nab him. He had evaded the police for the past 20 days,” Sharma said.
The police had obtained a non-bailable arrest warrant against him on June 10. Orissa High Court had directed the investigating agency on June 23 to submit the status report on the FIR within two weeks.
