Ranjit shines in Samurai act - JSP Sparks lead in Group A while Barabati Tigers head Group B

Bhubaneswar, May 31: Western Samurai (Rourkela) set a target of 138 before the Angul Tuskers at the Railway Stadium here today. Ranjit Singh was the highest scorer with 55 runs (42 balls) while Santosh Maharana made 34 runs (33 balls).

Rourkela captain Natraj Behera missed this match as he was in Mumbai to receive the M.A. Chidambaram award today. Angul’s Sukant Das took two wickets. Skipper Debasish Mohanty, Sheshadeep Patra and Aravind Singh claimed one wicket each. Till reports last came in, Angul had posted 27 runs for 2 wickets in 5.5 overs.

At Barabati Stadium, Balasore Baghas made 135 runs by losing six wickets in 20 overs against host team, Katak Barabati Tigers. Govind Poddar top-scored with 69 runs (40 balls) while captain Subhrajit Sahoo made 22. Cuttack’s Bibhudutta Panda and Pravanjan Mallick took two wickets each.

Puri Emperors played against JSP Sparks (Jagatsinghpur) at the Gopabandhu Stadium in Paradip. JSP Sparks won the toss and made 120 for the loss of five wickets. Captain, Rashmi Ranjan Das scored 53 runs. In reply, the Emperors were 19 for three in four overs.

Yesterday, Berhampur Bhanja Veers upset Puri Emperors at the Railway Stadium here. After winning the toss, the Bhanja Veers batted first and set a target of 157 runs. In reply, the Emperors' innings wrapped up for 103 runs in 19.3 overs. Wicketkeeper, Soubhagya Mohanty was the top scorer with 35 runs.

In another match, Cooperative Kings Dhenkanal scored a two-wicket win against Balasore in Cuttack. Balasore scored 122 runs for the loss of six wickets. Abhinash Rout scored 37 runs. In reply, Dhenkanal lost just one wicket to reach the target with 6.4 overs to spare. Skipper Shiv Sunder Das scored 46 runs. Tukuna Sahu, later adjudged man of the match, remained not out at 61.

After Monday, the points table stands like this: JSP Sparks (Jagatsinghpur) is leading Group A with four points and a net run rate (NRR) of +1.94, followed by Rourkela (four points), Angul, Berhampur and Puri (each two points).

Cuttack is leading Group B with eight points and NRR of 1.17. Dhenkanal has four points, Balasore and Bhubaneswar have got three points each while the latter has a better NRR of 0.19, and Kashvi Power Rangers with two points.
