Bhubaneswar, April 23: An e-learning laboratory has been set up at Rama Devi Women's University to improve the academic and administrative facilities of the institution.

With the laboratory, the varsity aims to establish an educational system that is based on modern technology in the field of e-learning and distance learning.

"It will also help exchanging lectures and seminars with other national and international universities," said vice-chancellor of the varsity Padmaja Mishra.

It would work towards converting a number of curricula to e-curricula as one of the modern patterns of learning.

"The laboratory will be helpful in spreading the culture of technology usage in education in general and in e-learning through introductory and training seminars and workshops for e-learning in particular," said higher education minister Pradeep Panigrahy.

The laboratory will also serve as an e-centre where around 80 computers have been put up. The centre has Internet facilities that are accessible to students and faculty members.

"They can use the system from 11am to 5pm. It will help students prepare notes along with apply for and seek information about various examinations," added Mishra.

Students of all the 47 colleges under the varsity will receive training here in the upcoming days, she added.

In another development, a 200kilowatt peak (kWp) rooftop solar panel was also inaugurated at Xavier University, Bhubaneswar, recently during the first undergraduate convocation for the Xavier School of Commerce on April 21.

Father Paul Fernandes, the vice-chancellor, said: "This will be further expanded in future." The university's Centre for Urban Management and Governance was also inaugurated.

Fifty-four students graduated from various programmes of the school under the varsity.

Governor S.C Jamir graced the occasion and delivered the convocation address. He presented gold medals to the top rank holders across schools.

The governor congratulated the graduating students and spoke about this important milestone in a student's life. Further, he elaborated on the importance of education as the driving engine for growth and social development of the country.

He spoke about technology, digitalisation, e-commerce, e- business and so on.
