Balasore, April 3: The hearing of bail petition of Raja Shree Mohanty, who has been accused of torturing his wife Barsa Swony Choudhary for dowry, will continue tomorrow in the sessions court.
In another development, the human rights protection cell of Odisha police today seized the dowry articles from the native house of Raghunath Mohanty, Raja Shree’s father, at Amarda Road. “The seizure of dowry articles, including ornaments, furniture and other household goods, have been made by the rights’ team,” said inspector in charge of Basta police station Manas Das.
Raja Shree’s hearing was stopped after it was pointed out that his bail petition had also been pending in Orissa High Court and two courts cannot hear the same petition simultaneously. “Another similar petition for bail is pending before the high court. Two petitions can’t run simultaneously,” said public prosecutor Biren Panda.
Defence lawyer Niranjan Panda said: “We had filed a bail petition in the high court. But on March 25, we had moved another application. We had submitted an affidavit in support of our claim that the bail petition had been withdrawn from the high court. But, the court has sought a certified copy of the withdrawal order.”
