Cuttack, July 19: Odisha vigilance sleuths today conducted simultaneous raids at four places, including the office and residence of Girish Kumar Khatua, 58, commandant at Odisha State Armed Police 6th battalion, for amassing property disproportionate to his known source of income.

Four teams of the vigilance unit under the superintendent of police (vigilance cell) S.B. Mishra conducted the raids at four places, including Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Mayurbhanj.

The places were Khatua’s residential quarters and office in Cuttack, his parental house at Betanati and another place in Bhubaneswar. So far, property to the tune of over Rs 60 lakh has been recovered. “The raids were conducted in connection with a disproportionate assets case and our raids will also continue on Friday,” said Mishra.

Mishra said Khatua owns a three-storey building at Samantrapur in Bhubaneswar that has been valued at Rs 45 lakh. His parental house on 1,400sqft in Betanati has been valued at Rs 8 lakh. Besides, bank deposit of nearly Rs 12 lakh, cash worth Rs 40,500, an Alto car, a bank locker and documents about a plot in CDA Colony worth Rs 5 lakh were also recovered during the raid. The bank locker in Bhubaneswar is yet to be opened.

Vigilance officials said Khatua, who has a career of nearly 36 years, was earlier posted as deputy commandant with the 6th battalion of the armed police.

He was promoted to the rank of commandant in 2006 and is likely to retire later in this month.
