Bhubaneswar, May 10: An educational institution, based on the model of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), will come up shortly in Puri for children of poor Brahmin families.
The Brahmin children will be given special training in the Vedas, karmakand and theology, especially on the Jagannath culture, in the school. On completion of their education from here, they will be able to establish themselves as well-trained and educated priests, said the authorities.
The KISS Bhartia Residential School will be opened with the support from the Bharatia Charitable Trust in Puri.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between KIIT and KISS founder Achyuta Samanta and the trust chairman Kishanlal Agarwal in Bhubaneswar today.
"I have been trying to open KISS branches in 15 to 20 districts of the state for the past one year and achieved significant success. I wanted to open a KISS branch in Puri exclusively for the children of poor Brahmin communities. It was possible because of the support from the Bhartia Charitable Trust," Samanta said.
The school in Puri will be a residential one like the KISS Bhubaneswar.
Both boys and girls of poor Brahmin families will get education with accommodation, food and health care free of cost.
The academic session will begin from July 2018.
KISS has bought 15 acres in Puri for setting up the school. Agarwal said the trust would provide full financial support for the infrastructure of the educational institution.
The students of this school will be taught in the CBSE curriculum. In the first phase, the school will have Class I to XII.
About 1,200 students will be enrolled in the first phrase. Children from the poor Brahmin families from across the country can take admission in the school.
