Cuttack, Feb. 6: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation has decided to construct 32 new public toilets at different places of the city.
The construction, which will be carried out under a project called Samman, will be implemented with financial and technical assistance from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and two other private agencies.
“The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) will implement the project. It envisages better sanitation and improved facilities for the people living in the city,” said mayor Saumendra Ghose.
The project has been estimated to cost Rs 4 crore, of which the civic body will spend Rs 1.8 crore. Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will provide Rs 2.2 crore.
CMC executive engineer Lalit Mohan Das said that 27 sites had been identified for construction of the toilets. The CMC has requested for a no-objection certificate from the irrigation department for construction of three more toilets.
The site for the construction of two public toilets is yet to be decided.
