Paradip, July 3: Tension prevailed at the Indian Oil Corporation’s refinery site today a day after firing by CISF personnel, in which several casual labourers were injured.

Protesting “brutal attack on unarmed labourers”, the Confederation of Workers’ Union laid siege at the entrance gate paralysing the construction of the project. The unions later staged a protest rally and resolved to continue the agitation for indefinite period.

The workers squatted on the road as a result of which connectivity to the project area was cut off.

Violence flared up yesterday after the casual workers were denied entry by the security personnel.

While a deceptive calm prevailed in and around the refinery project site, police and the CISF deployment was further reinforced to avert possible breach of law and order.

The civil and police authorities of the Odisha government, Indian Oil Corporation Limited officials and the CISF personnel are keeping close watch on the situation in view of the indefinite strike call given by various unions.
