Bhubaneswar, May 30: St Xavier International School students and their parents turned violent today when they found out that the school authorities had failed to come up with any solution for the “erroneous” CBSE Plus Two marks.
Of the total 260 students, who appeared for the examination, as many as 220 reportedly failed.
The angry students shouted slogans and damaged glass panes of the school building. The crowd could be controlled after police reached the place.
“This is simply impossible especially when we have qualified the JEE (Mains) and some of us have even cracked the JEE (Advanced),” said a student, who has secured two marks in mathematics.
“It’s impossible that I would secure two marks. I had done extremely well and was expecting more than 90,” he said.
The students alleged that most of them had secured single digit marks in subjects such as physics and chemistry.
“We are completely shocked. My daughter had been one of the best students in the class and appeared for the JEE (Advanced) entrance where they will count the Plus Two marks. We are left devastated. The authorities must do something immediately before the admission dates are over,” said a worried parent, Premanda Barik.
The Plus Two CBSE results were published on Wednesday.
“They had asked us to come today, but it seems they haven’t done anything so far. They cannot play with the career of our children at such a crucial time,” said Pinaki Mishra, another worried parent.
Mishra said he had visited the CBSE office here at least three times in the past two days.
The scores of the students had shocked the school authorities equally, and they had promised to take up the matter with the CBSE.
Vice-principal of the school Sandhya Rani Mishra said a team from the institution was already in Delhi to meet the CBSE head.
“The matter is being seriously pursued. Like the students’ future, the school’s reputation is also at stake,” she said.
