People offer Id prayers at a mosque in Bhubaneswar and (below) two kids hug each other in Cuttack on Thursday.
The twin cities observed Id with much enthusiasm as thousands of people thronged mosques and hosted feasts. The 24 mosques in the state capital were packed, resonating with prayers.

The festival provided a platform for the Muslim community to steep into festive fervour with their dear ones on Thursday.

“We have prayed for world peace and condemned the recent attack in Bangladesh. Terrorism has no religion,” said Bobby Islam, who joined the prayers at a mosque in Cuttack.

He also said there was still a sense of brotherhood between people of different communities, who had also joined in the celebrations in Cuttack.

The revellers were also seen donating money, clothes and food to the needy as part of Zakat al-Fitr (a charity given to the people on this day). They also greeted each other with gifts and sweet dishes.

Balasore, Rourkela, Berhampur and other regions of the state also joined the festivities on the occasion.
