Balasore: Five students of Art and Crafts College of Balasore have earned accolades at a prestigious exhibition-cum-poster competitions on themes of child rights in an international platform.
The posters made by these students were exhibited during the annual conference on Committee on Teaching about the United Nations held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on April 6.
Principal Nikunja Bihari Das said: "Twenty-one students from our college had sent their posters made on various themes on child rights. They were presented by one of our representatives, Basanti Dey Chakraborty, in New York and five of them were selected to be displayed in the conference."
The exhibited posters belong to Meghashree Das, Sagar Kumar Jena, Lakeshmita Das, Sonali Swatirekha and Sarifun Quadri.
"Despite availability of resources and opportunities, the children of our society used to work in their tender age to help their parents in earning bread and butter for the family," said Sonali, one of the artists. "The law can hardly bring in change, but it is the awareness which can help to a great extent in the mission in eradicating child labour."
The committee provides educators worldwide with opportunities to learn about the work of the United Nations and incorporate this global awareness into curricula and school activities at all levels.
The conference in New York, intended to protect the world's children, was attended by more than 560 educators, students and others.
