Bhubaneswar: The BhubaneswarOne portal, which is meant to provide all kinds of information about the city, including tourist places and recreational facilities, to residents and visitors, has failed to gain its popularity.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik had, in July last year, launched the one-stop information portal.
But neither the citizens nor the visitors are aware of it. Developed by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority, it was promoted as the first completed project of the Smart City Mission.
Sources said the failure was due to lack of awareness among the people and co-ordination between city agencies.
The BhubaneswarOne portal provides users information about city demographics and also about hotels, hospitals, government offices, tourist places, markets and hangout zones.
The website failed to make an impact since the link to it was not found on any of the government websites.
Besides, the portal's link is not available on the websites of the development authority, civic body, housing and urban development department or the state government.
Moreover, the BhubaneswarOne link doesn't come up in a Google search.
In September, the authorities had also added new features to the website and make a failed bid to popularise it.
Now, the authorities are planning to introduce another similar portal, but with a different name - BhubaneswarMe.
This portal will have features that are similar to BhubaneswarOne.
"It is nothing but waste of time and resources. If a website already exists, why are the authorities planning another? Instead they should make efforts to popularise the existing one," said Kharavela Nagar resident Alok Kar.
"It seems that the state government is trying to fool the people in the name of Smart City Mission. I can see no change in the city since the announcement of the much-hyped smart city project," he said.
A development authority official said BhubaneswarMe was different from the previous BhubaneswarOne, but he admitted that due to lack of co-ordination among the departments, people failed to notice the first-launched portal.
"We have various plans to popularise the existing and upcoming websites. We are not going to repeat what we have done in the past," the development authority official said.
