Ponzi scam

Cuttack: The court of the Additional District & Sessions Judge on Wednesday gave a nod for the public auction of properties of Shri Bhumi Group of Companies which was attached during inquiry by the Economic Offences Wing of the state CID crime branch into the ponzi scam. The property of the company include 46.64 acre of land at Jatni, Begunia and Khurda worth Rs 54.64 lakh and bank deposits of Rs 3.64 lakh.   

Surrender  

Bhubaneswar: A woman Maoist surrendered before police in Rayagada on Wednesday alleging exploitation by male members at a maoist camp. The woman identified as Rina Mallik, who is originally from Ganjam, belongs to the women cadre of Niyamgiri Dalam of the banned outfit. 

Jagmohan 

Bhubaneswar: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) informed Orissa High Court on Wednesday that Jagmohan of the Puri Jagannath temple would be handed over to the public works department by Thursday after completion of grouting. The works department would fix stainless steel portal frames in the Jagmohan. Conducting a hearing on a PIL pertaining to conservation and repair of Jagmohan, a division bench of the high court consisting of Chief Justice Vineet Saran and Justice B. R. Sarangi directed the ASI and the state government to submit status reports on Jagmohan repair by March 15.

Angul: A man killed his younger brother over property dispute at Kumurisingha in Angul. According to sources, there was a long-standing dispute over property between Rohit Nayak and his younger brother Rajendra, which took an ugly turn when Rohit wanted to build a house on the disputed land. 

Vigilance raid

Keonjhar: Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday raided houses and office of Palasapanga panchayat village level worker Brahmananda Barik for amassing disproportionate asset unknown to his   source of income.

Buddhist ruins

Jajpur: Ruins of Buddhist sculptures have been discovered in the Kelua riverbed in Dharmasala tehsil of Jajpur district of Odisha. Buddhist researcher Nrushingha Charan Sahoo discovered the century-old sculptures from the riverbed during his research conducted at Brahmani-Kelua island. The ruins of sculptures, including a residential place belonging to 7th or 8th century Buddhists and an “Arghya stupa”, carved out of the Brajagiri and Ratnagiri stones, were discovered, said Sahoo.

Bribe cuffs

Keonjhar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials on Wednesday arrested the station manager of Jaroli railway station Subash Chandra Bhukta in Keonjhar. Bhukta was arrested on the charges of allegedly accepting bribe from a transport agency. A CBI team of Bhubaneswar conducted a raid and caught the station manager red-handed while he was taking Rs 7,000 bribe from a transport agency.

Cuttack: Bharatiya Yuva Morcha activists on Wednesday burned effigies of BJD’s Barabati-Cuttack MLA Debashis Samantaray and Choudwar-Cuttack MLA Pravat Biswal for their alleged interference in the affairs of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack.
