Cuttack: Police foiled a plan robbery attempt at a petrol pump in Jagatpur on Sunday following the arrest of two persons in this connection. They registered a case against them on Monday.
The cops registered a case for assembling and making preparations to commit a crime along with illegal possession of arms against the duo - Debendranath Mohanty, 31, of Jharpada in Bhubaneswar and Santosh Kumar Maharana, 38, of Jagatpur in Cuttack. Four others members of the gang managed to escape.
The cops seized a country made 7.65mm pistol loaded with three rounds and two motorcycles.
Jagatpur police station sub-inspector Pramod Kumar Lenka and other staff members, while patrolling the area later on Sunday night, were tipped off about the group assembling at Nuasahi.
Lenka along his team proceeded to the spot and found six persons, who dispersed after seeing the cops.
The police said Lenka and his team members managed to nab two of them.
"Upon interrogations, the accused duo admitted that they had made plans to attack the Kailash Petrol Pump on NH-16 on Sunday night and rob the place," deputy commissioner of police Akhileswar Singh said.
"The two stated that they had procured the pistol and were chalking out plans for the operation when the police reached the spot," he said.
"The circumstances made the sub-inspector believe that the two accused and four others who managed to escape had assembled at the spot with an intention to commit a crime."
Accordingly, a case under sections 399 and 402 of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act was registered against both the accused on Monday.
