Bhubaneswar, April 23: The proposed e-evaluation of Plus Two papers may lead to a delay in the declaration of examination results, fears the Council of Higher Secondary Education.

According to the proposal, the e-evaluation will be an emulation of the Central Board of Secondary Education’s e-evaluation process that comprises on-screen marking solution. The answer sheets are scanned and put on screen for evaluation.

The examiners will be trained to use the software.

This was considered so as to ensure zero error in the answer sheet evaluation process, particularly in case of totalling up of marks. Besides being error free, the online evaluation will also ensure that soft copies of answer sheets are easily available for any future reference.

An official of the council, however, feel that the state government took a delayed decision on introducing the new system. If implemented, it would result in delay in announcement of results, he said.

“Training the teachers will take a lot of time,” he added.

The chairman of the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Basudeb Chhatoi, said that he would discuss the outcomes of the decision at a special meeting on finalising the e-evaluation scheduled tomorrow. While the government initially wanted to introduce e-evaluation on a pilot basis for the vocational stream. Later, it wanted to introduce the same for other streams, such as arts, commerce and science, as well.

Chhatoi said the council would make sure that it would go for online evaluation only if the government bore the cost.

Employees of the Council of Higher Secondary Education have expressed resentment as this would mean additional financial burden on the council.

Earlier, the Central Board of Secondary Education had postponed manual evaluation of answer sheets of Plus Two vocational stream, which was supposed to start from Monday. The evaluation will begin only after final decisions made in the meeting tomorrow.

However, the second phase of evaluation of papers in three other streams are continuing.

In another development, the government has requested the Central Board of Secondary Education to share its expertise on the e evaluation system.
