Bhubaneswar: The municipal corporation has issued a demand notice of Rs 13.6 lakh to 17 organisations whose unauthorised advertisement hoardings had been removed during a recent enforcement drive.

The demand notice, issued in line with the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Advertisement Regulations, 2006, said that certificate cases would be issued if the defaulters failed to pay the dues within seven days.

According to the regulations, the civic body will collect Rs 5,000 per advertisement for its removal if it is within the size of 100sqft. If the size of the advertisement/hoarding is above 100sqft, the dismantling charge is Rs 7,000.

BMC deputy commissioner (revenue) Srimanta Mishra said: "The erring hoarding agencies have been asked to pay the fees immediately. If they failed to do it within seven days of the notice being issued, the BMC will be forced to impose the stringent Orissa Public Demand Recovery (OPDR) Act.''

Enforcement squads of the BMC continued joint drives against the rooftop hoardings along various major stretches, especially those on the 40km priority corridor.

The BMC action in the North Zone on Wednesday brought down 13 hoardings. The enforcement would continue in coming days as well.
