Panels shortlist candidates for VC post

Bhubaneswar, April 21: A three-member committee today short-listed candidates for the post of vice-chancellor of Fakir Mohan University (FMU), Balasore.

Around 70 academics had applied for the post.

The search-cum-selection panel — comprising Surabhi Banerjee (former vice-chancellor of Central University of Orissa, Koraput) Arun Rath (former secretary, Union ministry of human resources development), and Aditya Padhee (former vice-chancellor of Berhampur University) — met at the Governor's House and short-listed the candidates.

The three-year tenure of incumbent vice-chancellor Kumar Bara Das ends on May 8.

From the short-listed aspirants, the panel will recommend three names out of which one will be selected by the governor and chancellor of universities S.C. Jamir.

Similarly, the three-member panel — comprising R.K. Chauhan (former UGC secretary), Dinesh Singh (vice-chancellor, Delhi University) and Kailash Chandra Mishra (vice-chancellor, Sri Sri University) — has short-listed eight names for the vice-chancellor’s post of Utkal University.

The three-member panel will be interacting with the candidates here on April 28 and recommend three names to the chancellor for final selection.

The three-year tenure of the present incumbent P.K. Sahoo ends on May 1.

The eight short-listed candidates are Samson Maharana, (professor of commerce Utkal University,), Satyaban Jena (professor of chemistry, Utkal University), Anup Das (professor of sociology, Utkal University), Hemant Patra (professor of botany, Utkal University), Amarendra Mishra (professor of botany, Jharkhand University), Prakash Sarangi (retired professor of political science, Hyderabad Central University), Seemanchal Panigrahi (National Institute of Technology, Rourkela) and Ashok Das (Bhaba Atomic Research Centre).
