Three jewel thieves arrested in Balasore
Balasore: Chennai police arrested three jewel thieves from a lodge near Balasore railway station on Monday night.
Following a high-profile theft in Chennai, a special police team from Tamil Nadu had been camping in the town and keeping a watch on the lodge for nearly a week. The team nabbed the accused when they were going to a local restaurant around 11pm.
The district police, who assisted the Chennai police, refused to divulge details saying it would hamper investigation.
However, Balasore superintendent of police Rajesh Kumar confirmed the arrest and said the accused had been taken to Soro for further investigation.

sambalpur: Several councillors of Sambalpur Municipality on Tuesday demanded the authorities to renegotiate with the private agency entrusted with sanitation work. We want the chairperson to renegotiate with the firm that has been selected for sanitation work in 15 wards,” said Siddharth Saha, councillor of ward No. 10 of Sambalpur Municipality.The municipality has agreed to spend Rs 1.87 lakh for sanitation work in a ward. The rate is quite high. We want the chairperson to cancel the tender and call for fresh application from interested firms,” said Ashok Sony, councillor of ward No. 6.
BMC protest
BHUBANESWAR: Agitating sweepers did not let staff enter the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday demanding regularisation of jobs. Members of the sweepers association even stopped forest and environment minister Debi Prasad Mishra, who had come there. The situation became normal only after Mayor Ananta Jena intervened.
Project review
BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday reviewed the development of Sukatel irrigation project, which would help irrigate 31,836 hectares of agricultural land in Balangir and Sonepur districts. Naveen directed the concerned authorities to finish the project work within the deadline. It was also decided in the meeting that the construction of an earthen dam and spillway would begin soon after the rainy season. The tender process for this was at its final stage.
