Silver bricks in Jhansi

Bhubaneswar: The chief priest Maharaj Rajgopal Ramanuj Das, the main accused in the alleged theft of silver bricks from the Emar mutt complex, has smuggled the bricks to his home at Jhansi in UP, revealed Purna Chandra Das, former employee of the Emar mutt, on Friday. Although aware of the facts, he did not inform it to anyone as there was threat to his life, Das said. Meanwhile, four other persons were detained by police for interrogation. Seven persons were arrested on Wednesday for the alleged theft nearly a month after recovery of an empty box along with four similar ones containing 522 silver bricks.

Students held

Bhubaneswar: As many as 807 students were booked for malpractice on the third day of matriculation exams on Friday. This takes the total number of detected malpractice cases to 5,149. The school and mass education department has suspended eight persons, including two centre superintendents, four teachers and two peons for assisting the students in malpractice. Similarly, 25 centre superintendents in Dhenkanal were on Friday altered following complaints of malpractice there.

Two dead

Jajpur: Two labourers were on Friday killed in Baghua black metal quarry at Anjira village under Jenapur police station limits here. The incident took place when a big black metal stone rolled down the quarry in which they were working. he deceased were identified as Kunmun Samal (26) of nearby Surei village and Yudhistira Sahoo (27) of Antia village. While Kunmun died on the spot, Yudhistira succumbed to his injuries at S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital, police said.

Minor rescued

Bhubaneswar:A 12-year-old girl from Berhampur was on Friday rescued from New Delhi by some social activists in the region. The girl had been trafficked to Delhi by one of her relatives. She was engaged as a domestic help there. The matter came to light after parents of the girl filed a complaint with the police. She has been kept at a shelter home in Delhi and will soon be reaching here, said police.

Earth Hour

Bhubaneswar: The state energy department has requested all departments to switch off lights for one hour as part of the Earth Hour campaign to be observed on Saturday. The request was circulated among departments such as the Orissa Power Transmission Corporation, the Orissa Power Generation Corporation, the Orissa Hydro Power Corporation, the Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission and four other electricity distribution companies.

Death case

Bhubaneswar: Police are yet to make headway in the death case of a transport businessman whose body was found in a burnt room inside an office at Cuttack on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Md Nasim. He was in Cuttack for some official chore and was putting up at his company’s office.
