Cuttack: Sleuths of Excise Intelligence and Enforcement Bureau on Tuesday raided a house in Balianta area and seized 1.65kg of brown sugar worth over Rs 1.5 crore.cting on a tip-off that the narcotic substance is being supplied to different parts of the state from Balianta, excise intelligence and enforcement bureau officials raided the house of Tikam Das, 50. The accused, however, managed to escape from the spot, said inspector A.K. Jena. This is the second major haul of the contraband seized by the excise officials this year. Two months ago, brown sugar worth Rs 4 crore was seized from Puri. The police had then arrested four persons during raids in Puri and Bhubaneswar. Bhubaneswar: The State Film Awards for 2008 and 2009 were given away by governor Muralidhar Chandrakant Bhandare at Rabindra Mandap here on Tuesday. While Jianta Bhoota and Saata Sure Bandha E Jibana won awards for best films for 2008 and 2009 respectively. Akash Dasnayak and Ralli Nanda won the best actor and actress awards for 2008. Bhubaneswar: Relatives of a seven-year-old child on Tuesday alleged that his schoolteachers had been taunting him and branding him a witch as he had six fingers on one hand. The child was studying in a government-run orphanage. Shahid Nagar police, however, said they had not received any formal complaint regarding the matter. 'We enquired about the matter but did not find anything serious. We are waiting for a written complaint,' said a police officer. Bhubaneswar: In the monthly review of the Police Control Room (PCR) of the city police, it was found that the control room had received 48,298 calls last month. Besides, the PCR vans after getting instruction from the control room have rushed 198 injured persons to hospitals and 10 women to short-stay homes. Eighty drunk people were fined after they were picked up by the police deployed in the PCR vans. The vans also nabbed forty-eight thieves.
