Woman paradednaked

Jagatsinghpur: A dowry victim, who was allegedly paraded naked in a village in Jagatsinghpur district, has knocked on the doors of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). On March 20, the victim from Arakhakuda village had registered a complaint alleging that her in-laws had paraded her naked on the village streets after beating her up by iron rods. Apart from registering a case, she also alleged that police were sitting on the matter and trying to cover it up, the petition charged. “A case had immediately been registered after filing of the complaint. However, the culprits are yet to be booked as they are absconding,” said Satish Chandra Ray, inspector, Naugaon police station.

Exhibition

Bhubaneswar: Vivekanand Express, which is going around the country to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, will be kept for public viewing at railway stations in Bhubaneswar, Brahmapur, Koraput and Rayagada. The exhibition on wheels is expected to encourage the nation’s youths. The five-coach fully air-conditioned exhibits photographs, write-ups displaying the life, work and preachings of the Vivekananda. The train will be at Mancheswar from May 11 to 13, at Berhampur from May 14 to 15, Rayagada from May 16 to 18, Koraput from May 19 to 20 and Visakhapatnam May 21 to 23. The exhibition will start from 10am.

Tusker dead

Angul: A 15-year-old tusker, who was injured almost a month ago, died on Thursday morning at Ramhuri forest under Khamar range in the district. Sources said that lack of proper treatment led to the death of the elephant. This is the third elephant to have died in the range in last six months. On April 6, another male elephant was found in Barkotia jungle under Khamar range with an injury to its front right leg. The leg was dislocated after a fight between two tuskers.
